Berkeley let 2 precious points slip when they were surprisingly held to a 2-2 draw by lowly placed Wests Illawarra. Reports indicate that Wests were good value for their point and could even have won the game. Goal scorers for Berkeley were Rodney Kis and Darren Gardiner with the contributions for Wests coming from Andrew Austin and Daniel Baker. From Football Illawarra

OFF SEASON:

After a protracted discussion with the IFA about the rediculous decision not to allow Berkeley Sports Football Club to take its rightfull, earned place in the Premier League competition, we have finally been denied and have chased through all avenues to get the decision changed.

Like it or not we are still in First Division, and now have to rebuild. We are turning around a decision which could have sounded the death nell for the club into something positive with renewed vigour for 2007.

Now is a time for putting your hand up and doing, not for letting all the hard workers down...... We have a good team this year and some sponsors to help us, but we still need all the help we can get.

If you know of anyone who would like to sponsor the Club or is willing to help in any way . Contact: brucepascoe@optusnet.com.au

Editorial,

One of the unfortunate things that happen in our game occured in the 2nd round game against Corrimal, Antonio Mendes was seriously injured breaking his leg.

A disturbing part of this was the player standing over him hurling abuse at him as he lay on the ground in agony. I hope that he now feels like a big man, because his actions showed what a little man he really is. There is no place for this in our game.

He also undermined the good work that Corrimal Rangers have done over the past years and put a black mark against the club. I can only hope that the Corrimal club deals with him as he deserves.

President's Mid Season comment

Well here we are one week into the second round with our first grade team having 7 wins 4 draws and three losses for 25 points and sitting in fourth place on the competition table. Reserve grade have 26 points and are sitting third while our youth grade have 10 points and are sitting in 13th position.

We have just been knocked out of The Bert Bampton KO in controversial circumstances by the eventual winner i.e. Dandaloo. I am very proud to say that Berkeley Sports Football Club was the only IFA club to participate in the semi finals of both the Corrimal Leagues KO and the Bert Bampton KO and along the way we beat premier league clubs Picton Rangers and Albion Park White Eagles.

However the BBKO has had a very detrimental effect on our run for the premiership. Of four KO games played during the season we have lost two (Woll Olympic and Highlands) and drawn two (Wests and Balgownie) immediately after a KO round. I am sure Barney would have much rather had the eight points. Having said that, I must congratulate all players who took part in the KO games. The club has gained a great deal of publicity and goodwill from our run in both knockouts.

We have 12 games until the semis and with no other commitments and a squad other clubs would die for I can only see our first grade side heading to the top of table. Our reserve grade side, coached by Kevin Bradley, has had an up and down season. This is always the case for reggies as they very rarely have the same side from one game to the next. Their depth will be stretched over the next few weeks with injuries to both first and reserve graders as well as missing a few players who have gone overseas for the World Cup. Once they get through this period I am sure they will mount a very healthy challenge to finish in the top two.

Our youth grade side continues to be the enigma of the club. No doubt they have the ability to beat the best teams in the comp and they have shown this by beating sides such as Bellambi who were previously undefeated. However they come up against the lesser teams in the comp and struggle to get points. I am sure Adam and Mitch will work hard over the next few weeks trying to get some consistency in the team. Once they achieve this consistency I am sure they have the ability to make a run for a semi final berth

If interested see Leo at the Olympic game saturday. Free soup to all applicants.

Not for this little black duck!!!!!!

Bampton Cup

Berkeley Vs Bellambi

Nail biting game with Berkeley twice going out to a 2 goal lead only to have quick goals scored against them and end up level. 3-3 at full time, 5 - 5 after extral time.Berkeley won 4/3 on penalty shoot outs.

Bryan Brown played an outstanding game up front, but couldn't have bought a goal if he had $1,000,000. Pretty damn quick for a youngster Bryan.
