Corrimal League Knockout Quarter Finals

Berkeley Supporters and the community

On thursday 11th May, one of our staunchest supporters gave his final Blood donation. It was his 325th donation.

To the Robinson Family, thanks, you are all life savers, and Jame's, you are a real hero thanks.

All you Berkeley supporters if you get the chance follow in James' footsteps and give blood. It really does make a difference.

Tell them you come from Berkeley. Let James be your inspiration.

Maybe we can challenge some of the other clubs to give blood too.

Berkeley Sports 1 VS Picton Rangers 0

Berkeley lined up against a much more fancied team for the quarter finals of the Knockout, none of the opposition expected them to be there.

It was this game in high temperature and humidity at which the Berkeley players proved themselves, they showed that they also have heart.

The game started withh Picton having the upperhand fo the first 15 minutes, they were very methodical in their build ups, it was only some some magnificent defence from our boys kept the picton team scoreless.

Berkeley then started to take the upper hand, and force the plays giving us 2 great chances, and we were unlucky not to score, as the first half progressed we looked th e better side. The game was very tight and at half time could have gone either way.

In the second half again Picton started off quicker, and could have scored if not some great defence. Then, as in the first half Berekely started to take control.

Both teams were looking very tired and had to dig very deep to keep going, then a quick break great pass and Rod Kis hit a smacking goal after 15 minutes in the second half. We then held on with dogged defence and brilliant attack to complete the win.

Every single player out there did themselves proud and justifiably deserved the win.

All the mid week hype didn't help Picton, and if I was a Port Kembla man I'd have to be worried.

To the Coaches, Managers, Strappers and Players, .......Thanks

Youth team

The Youth team mid week played the much favoured Piction in the Corrimal Leagues Youth Cup, and although they were beaten 0 - 3, they were not disgraced in any way, the game could have been quite different if they had taken a couple of chances on goal.

The committment and performance of our youth team was second to none, they played confidently and as a team. WELL DONE!!

This will be a formative year for the younger players playing in a very good club with excellent senior players and coaching staff.

They will give the tree a big shake this year in First Division

Corrimal Leagues Knock Out

Game 2: Berkeley 2 v Fernhill 1

Berkeley Vs Fernhill. 8:15 pm 10th Feb 06

It was great to be at the second round of the Corrimal Leagues Knockout, with a quality team representing our Club. The match was set to be a great one with both teams having good players.

There was no disappointment with the game, both teams came out to win, and neither of them left anything back at the sheds. They both gave 100%.

The game started off very fast with Berkeley having a very early chance through Whitey in the opening minute, after this the game evened out a bit, then another chance with Glen heading the ball well only to be stopped by the Fernhill keeper.

We were starting to get over the top of them, and Fernhill started to panic a bit, then a Yellow to each team and it calmed a little. Then fernhill made a half break and it took a great 1 handed low save by Josh to keep it out.

The 25th minute and we had another great chance, 3 or 4 goes at the ball bobbling in front of goals, hitting arms, legs and the upright - still don't know how we didn't score.

2 more shots hit the post, Whitey smashed one which just hit the post and then Glen had a great header which again hit the post.

There was some impressive build ups in the first half, and good solid defensive work by Lance, Matt, Adrian and Peter, the wings worked hard all game providing quality passes into the centre.

Our first goal came early in the second half when Whitely held up the ball on the right, Darren made a run allowing whitely to turn inside and pass the ball to Fleming who scored.

15 minutes into the second half the second goal was scored it was just as good as the first with Mendo beating 2 players on the goal line, then crossing the ball to Whitey, unmarked in from of the net. Whitey clinically slotted the ball past the keeper

In the 30th minute of the second half Fernhill scored leaving the final score at Berkeley 2 Fernhill 1.

Great game, Congratulations to the team and good luck in the next round!!!!

Whose Next??
